WTB Launches Ranger 2.4 Tire for All-Weather Trail Riding

Posted by on

MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA – September 21, 2018 – The all-weather tread pattern of the WTB Ranger tire is now available in a 2.4-inch width designed for trail riding. The Ranger tread pattern has earned its following as a fast-rolling design that sticks to the trail through a wide range of conditions. The Ranger was originally introduced as a plus-size 2.8/3.0 tire, followed by the introduction of the XC-focused 2.25 width. Adding the 2.4-inch width to the Ranger family provides a middle width that WTB product testers have found ideal for daily trail riding.

While the Ranger tread pattern was designed to excel in wet conditions, the tread pattern has proven itself to perform in all conditions outside of the excessively loose or sandy. The multitude of short knobs ensures a substantial amount of tread is always in contact with the trail, while the ample knob spacing allows the tire to shed muck with ease.  Minimalistic center knobs enable the Ranger 2.4 to roll efficiently while additional outer knob height provides the digging power and support needed to corner with confidence.

The Ranger 2.4 trail tire is available in three different levels, all of which are 29” diameter. The two TCS Light versions of the Ranger 2.4 utilize a single-ply 60 tpi casing with integrated Slash Guard Technology, which incorporates a protective nylon insert spanning the entire sidewall to provide extra protection without the weight of a dual ply casing. TCS Light tires with Slash Guard provide a middle level of casing durability and protection between the original TCS Light and TCS Tough casings. The TCS Tough version of the Ranger 2.4 employs two layers of 60 tpi casing to provide the ultimate level of protection for aggressive trail riding.

All three levels of the Ranger 2.4 utilize WTB’s new TriTec Compound, which utilizes three rubber compounds to provide different levels of traction, support and durability that correlate to their placement within the tread. The entire tread pattern is supported by a base of high durometer rubber, which transitions halfway into the height of the knobs and allows for the use of softer knob compounds without the tire folding due to cornering forces. The top of the center knobs consists of a medium durometer compound to provide traction and durability without sacrificing rolling efficiency, while the outer knobs feature the softest and slowest rebounding compound to deliver maximum grip.

The WTB Ranger 2.4 29” TCS Light (Slash Guard) High Grip tire weighs 1049 grams, while the TCS Tough Fast Rolling level weighs 1138 grams. TCS Light versions of the WTB Ranger 2.4 are currently available with an MSRP of $69.95, while the TCS Tough/Fast Rolling level has an MSRP of $79.95.

About TCS and TCS 2.0

WTB’s proprietary sealant tubeless system, TCS (Tubeless Compatible System,) revolutionized rims and tires in 2009 when it combined ETRTO, ISO, and UST standards with lightweight tubeless rotational weights. Never before had a standards-based tubeless system weighed so little. Now with the introduction of TCS 2.0, our Tubeless Compatible System continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible through purpose-built tires and tailor-made rims for every discipline of cycling.
