WTB tire technology
TCS BEAD
WTB’s TCS (Tubeless Compatible System) tires feature the best of both worlds: they boast the ride benefits of a tubeless tire with the minimal weight of an XC race tire. This versatile system combines WTB’s lightweight Race casing with a tubeless UST bead. TCS tires work great with inner tubes and easily adapt to tubeless when combined with WTB-approved sealant and rim strips (like Stan’s Tire Sealant)
TUBELESS
Designed to meet UST/ETRTO standards, WTB tubeless tires feature an Aramid bead with exceptional air retention qualities. Our tubeless tires also feature 120 TPI casing.
ARAMID BEAD
The Aramid bead provides greater bead-seat characteristics, while weighing in lighter than conventional wire beads.
CABLE BEAD
The Cable bead is an economical folding wire bead that is easier to install and of a higher quality than a traditional wire bead.
DUAL DNA RUBBER COMPOUND
The centerline compound features 60a durometer rubber for fast rolling, precise steering and durability. The dense, slow-rebounding 50a durometer outer tread provides exceptional grip and shock absorbing properties.
DNA RUBBER COMPOUND
WTB’s fast-rolling 60a durometer rubber compound is specifically formulated for high-performance riding in a variety of conditions.
SUPER TRACK DNA RUBBER COMPOUND
WTB’s special blend of high-traction 53a durometer rubber provides sticky, solid traction for improved control in steep, loose conditions.
SUPER DUTY CASING
This thick-ply casing resists cuts from rocks and debris while damping impacts. Our Inner Peace sidewall reinforcement further protects the tire from damage, reduces sidewall flex and dramatically reduces pinch flats.
INNER PEACE
Inner Peace is a thin strip of nylon integrated into the tire sidewall that protects the casing from damage, reduces sidewall flex and dramatically reduces pinch flats. This feature is found exclusively available on WTB’s AM TCS, Team FR and Team DH series tires.
TPI
TPI stands for threads per inch. This number refers to the thread count in a tire’s casing. A lower TPI indicates that thicker threads are woven into the casing, therefore making it more durable; a higher TPI indicates thinner threads are used, therefore making the casing lighter and more pliable. WTB’s 60 TPI race-level tires offer supple, shock absorption qualities while remaining resistant to cuts and tears. The Super Duty casing found on Team DH tires, by contrast, feature dual plies of tough 30 TPI casing.
SIPING
Sipes are small incisions on a tire’s tread. Siping a knob creates more working edges, which boosts traction in virtually any condition. Because WTB’s high-end mountain tires feature shallow sipes, the knobs still stay firm under heavy loads and hard braking.
TERRACED SIDE KNOBS
These stepped side knobs (found on the new WeirWolf tire) feature progressive flex. In the initial stages of a turn, the tread is supple and conforms to the terrain. As more pressure is applied at the apex of the turn, these knobs become stiffer to provide support.
TIRE PRESSURE
WTB recommends that tire pressure be checked before each ride. The acceptable pressure range for mountain bike tires is 35- to 65-psi (2.4- to 4.5-bar). City/Trekking/Hybrid tires must be inflated between 50- and 80-psi (3.5- to 5.5-bar). Tire pressure outside of these guidelines can result in a loss of control or, at the very least, poor performance.
