How WTB contributes to your success? They listen to what I need as a racer to get the job done. When I asked for a tire that had rolling characteristics like the Beeline and cornering grip like the Vigilante they listened and it started the concept process for the Riddler tire! Within a day of me pitching the tire idea I'd seen a 3D rendering of it! I can't imagine that happens all that often in the world and I feel totally honored to be a part of this team.
How you got started out competing? In 1996 I hitched a ride across the country in the Cool Tool/Retrotec hippy schoolbus turned bike racer team bus. When we got to Durango they said I either had to race bikes to "earn my passage" so to speak, or play in the band (did I mention the side of the bus folded down into a stage). Racing seemed less painful. As it turned out I was pretty good at the racing thing (which is good cause I still can't carry a tune) and I was hooked. Spent the rest of the race season trucking around the country in that bus racing XC, DH, and Dual Slaloms on the same bike at all the NORBA Nationals.
First experience with a bike: Making Napoleon Dynamite style jumps in the driveway...With Napoleon Dynamite style results.
Who do you look up to? Anybody who is a good parent and still juggles the rest of life.
