Runnin’ with the Devil

With the impending doom in our economy and summertime temps rapidly coming to a close, WTB reminds you to get out on your bike while you still can. A small crew of us here at WTB world headquarters squeezed in a lunch ride today in spectacular fall weather. Something about riding mid-day—during the week—really adds an element of excitement. From the first pedal stroke out of the parking lot our group was high energy. We were laughing and hooting and hollering the whole time. Chris Schierholtz made one small bauble in a root garden and was promptly run over by Mill Valley’s trail boss (and WTB’s king of logistics) Fast Freddy Falk. Fortunately only Chris’ ego was bruised in the scuffle.
Moments later, while riding pavement on the way to more dirt, we were nearly run down by Sammy Hagar in his limited edition Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. The “Red Rocker’s” super car is all black with bright red racing stripes and apparently “the fastest V-12 Ferrari has ever built.” The good times didn’t end there. We grabbed some free, organic apples from a road-side stand and shredded some more singletrack. The last descent of the ride was a three-person battle punctuated by Chris getting some sweet revenge. I looked back at just the right moment to see Fred getting stuffed in a loose corner. Poor Fred was lost momentarily in a cloud of dust and leaves. A couple of turns later and Fred materialized ahead of us again, taking some unseen shortcut, proving that Mill Valley only has room for one Trail Boss.
