Katie Compton Wins Cyclocross World Cup

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Compton_Treviso

WTB-sponsored rider Katie Compton absolutely destroyed her competition this past weekend at the first stop of the Cyclocross World Cup series in Treviso, Italy. Compton attacked on the opening lap, the only rider to match the move was current world champ Daphny Van Den Brand. By the second lap, Compton was completely on her own and she never looked back. By the end of the 16-kilometer race, Compton had nearly 30-seconds on Van Den Brand and more than a minute on most of the top ten finishers.

Compton now wears the World Cup leaders jersey, the next stop of the Cyclocross World Cup series is October 18, in Pilsen, Czech Republic, near WTB’s European headquarters. Unfortunately this round of the World Cup is only open to elite men. Katie Compton, and the rest of the elite women, rejoin the World Cup series on November 8 in Nommay, France. Compton’s saddle of choice is the Silverado SLT.

The victory marks Peat’s 16th World Cup win, tying him with legendary Frenchman Nicolas Vouilloz. The charismatic rider from Sheffield, England is one of the most recognizable and popular personalities in downhill racing. Peat is known for his consistency and has been performing at the elite level for more than 15 years. Peaty’s saddle of choice is the WTB Rocket V SLT in white and red.

Katie Compton Wins Cyclocross World Cup

Katie on the podium in Pijnacker

WTB-sponsored rider Katie Compton recently stormed to victory in the third Cyclocross World Cup race of the season. The 29-year-old Colorado Springs-native spent the summer dominating the domestic XC race circuit, now she’s leading the international cyclocross circuit. This World Cup win—Compton’s first—came in Pijnacker, Netherlands, in her third ever World Cup race. This is a big result for Compton and a big result for the U.S., in a sport that’s historically been dominated by Belgians and Dutch.

Compton races and trains exclusively on WTB Silverado saddles. She is also fond of WTB’s mountain bike tires. During this season’s mountain bike campaign Compton rode a mix of WTB 29er tires, including the Nano Raptor, as well as WTB LaserDisc Lite hubs.

Last winter Compton scored a silver medal at the Cyclocross World Championships and won the U.S. Cyclocross National Championships. This season we’re betting that she’ll bring home the rainbow jersey from the Cyclocross World Championships on January 26, 2008 in Treviso, Italy.
