Compton Wins World Cup on Silverado Saddle

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

WTB-sponsored racer Katie Compton claimed victory at the fourth round of the Cyclocross World Cup in Koksijde, Belgium on November 29. Compton—voted by Velo News Magazine as the North American Cyclocross Woman of the Year—overcame what she called “a terrible start” to beat the current world champ in a drag race to the finish line. The win is Compton’s second world cup victory and propelled the American to seventh place in the series. Compton’s main focus this year is the Cyclocross World Championships in February, 2009. Compton took home the silver medal in the 2007 ‘Cross World Champs, this year she’s going for gold.

Compton’s saddle of choice is WTB’s Silverado.

WTB One-Two Punch at Cyclocross National Championships

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Compton 2

WTB sponsored riders Katie Compton and Rachel Lloyd dominated the U.S. Cyclocross National Championships yesterday in Kansas City, Kansas. In the epic, icy battle Compton set a fierce pace from the first lap. The only real challenger of the day was Marin-county native, Rachel Lloyd.

Compton, riding a WTB Silverado saddle, finished 22 seconds ahead of Lloyd, who was riding a WTB Shadow V saddle. Nearly a full minute passed between Lloyd and third place finisher Georgia Gould.

Yesterday’s victory marked Compton’s fourth National Cyclocross Championship title. She is ranked second, globally, in UCI points. Compton, Lloyd and Gould will be representing the United States at the upcoming Cyclocross World Championships.

Later that day in the men’s elite race, WTB-sponsored Team Kona rider Ryan Trebon crashed out of contention. The 2006 National Champion was on his way to defending his title when he collided with another rider. The impact knocked Trebon unconscious. He didn’t take long to come to, but departed the race after the crash.

Katie Compton Wins Cyclocross World Cup

Katie on the podium in Pijnacker

WTB-sponsored rider Katie Compton recently stormed to victory in the third Cyclocross World Cup race of the season. The 29-year-old Colorado Springs-native spent the summer dominating the domestic XC race circuit, now she’s leading the international cyclocross circuit. This World Cup win—Compton’s first—came in Pijnacker, Netherlands, in her third ever World Cup race. This is a big result for Compton and a big result for the U.S., in a sport that’s historically been dominated by Belgians and Dutch.

Compton races and trains exclusively on WTB Silverado saddles. She is also fond of WTB’s mountain bike tires. During this season’s mountain bike campaign Compton rode a mix of WTB 29er tires, including the Nano Raptor, as well as WTB LaserDisc Lite hubs.

Last winter Compton scored a silver medal at the Cyclocross World Championships and won the U.S. Cyclocross National Championships. This season we’re betting that she’ll bring home the rainbow jersey from the Cyclocross World Championships on January 26, 2008 in Treviso, Italy.
