Feel the Frequency with WTB’s new TCS rim!

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Heads up! WTB is giving away TCS tires to go with the purchase of the all new Frequency TCS rim. All you have to do is post a picture of them built up on our Facebook page between 2/27 & 3/2 telling us what tires you want and why. Offer not valid with other promotions.

In case you havn’t heard the hype, check out what our friends at MTBR have to say:

CupOfJava,

“Building: these rims are probably one of the easiest to work with.”

“As much as I love the flows if the i23 are as capable as these rims I think I may not go back to stans.”

 4slomo,

“I am completely impressed by the quality of these new rims.”

“very nice design details”

loC,

“MTBR forums call them comparable to Arches but says they’re stiffer and ‘harder’ (don’t dent as easily).”

Love Enduro Racing? Have no Idea what it is? Read this article…

Ben Cruz Enduro

Enduro Practice = Fun - photo: Brian Raphael

Thank Goodness for Enduro Racing. NSMB.com just posted this great article featuring WTB’s very own Mark Weir and Ben Cruz. Read this excerpt from Mark and definitely check out the full article here.

Enduro is about enjoying yourself, it’s racing the best parts of trails with gas still in the tank to ride the trail at maximum speed in technical situations. Not about relying only on fitness and coasting down the hill. The perfect Enduro is one that leaves you with the feeling of power left over but the trail was so technical it made it hard to lay down that power. If you are too hard on equipment and lack finesse Enduro makes you pay. Either a weight penalty, which in turn is a time penalty. By a running a heavy set-up to make up for straight line mashing you just lost a minute on the climb. Enduro racing is calculation and knowing the way you ride and building the bike to get the most you can from your strengths. You can’t hide your weaknesses but you can disguise.

Winning in China !

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

nanningmtb-1.jpg
WTB’s PR representative, Daniel Carruthers won the International Exchange Race in Nanning China. It was quite a convincing win over second place by 10 minutes and quite impressive considering the race was short, three laps of 3kms each. But super hilly and technical single-track.
mtbrace3.jpeg
“It was a thrilling track,” says Carruthers, “It was a refreshing to turn up to a race here in China and race 99% on good old twisting single track that requires your 100% concentration at all times. The International Exchange Race only had about 20 competitors and it was an easy win for me – more like a warm up for the main elite event of the day.”

Mountain bike racing is very popular in China, however most events are run on the road and this is not very conducive to the spirit of mountain biking. Despite this trend of running mountain bike road races, there is a definite shift towards holding real off-road mountain biking. The Nanning Sports Association together with the Local Cycling Federation are part of this new shift and were successful in putting together a high quality track that would satisfy any discerning mountain biker. The event also served to promote mountain biking as a sport to the locals and many riders from all over China participated.

The main event of the day, the Elite Category, was hotly contested by some of China’s best mountain bikers and Feng Kuanjie (TRIACE Team) emerged as the victor, with a winning margin of nearly three minutes. WTB’s Daniel Carruthers, who took part in the earlier race, despite crashing early on still posted a commendable result to finish in the top 20 from 72 riders.
Winner !
2012 is looking like to be a big year for WTB in China as we seek to increase our presence at the grassroots levels in the Chinese mountain biking community. WTB will be at the forefront of the new ‘real’ mountain biking movement with longer and more challenging races on offer.

Daniel was running the Nano 29″er and a Volt saddle.

Shredding with Ben Cruz

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Take a peek at the day and the life of WTB/Cannondale/Fox rider Ben Cruz as he shreds the Novato California hills on Mutano TCS tires, Stryker TCS All mountain Wheels, and his favorite Valcon saddle. Ben claims”…all the trails around my house are basically illegal, but we make do. We have made friends with the local land owners so we can hang out there and dig. We can do what ever we want on our own free will…without the worry of getting hassled by the man.”

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Cheers to WTB/Cannondale rider Jason Moeschler for a fifth-place finish at the Merida Cup in Taiwan yesterday. After finishing up with Taichung Bike Week, the WTB OEM Sales manager was able to squeeze in a race while he was still in town. Sometimes it pays to bring the bike no matter how far away you travel!
Stairs
“The race was freeking huge. Huge.” Says Moeschler, “I don’t remember the last time I was at a race attended by this many people. I was stoked I got to go up to the podium.”

Appetite Seminar Anyone?

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

It is that time of year again, ride all morning and eat all afternoon. The Appetite Seminar, as it is know as in Marin County, started back in 1975 when a dozen riders took their one speed “clunkers” up the mountain then down the now famous Repack trail. Learn more about this event on mountain bike pioneer Charlie Kelly’s website.

This year will be a little different, the Steelhead trout in Cascade Canyon are threatened therefore an alternative route has been set instead of running Repack.

See you on the trail and have a Happy Thanksgiving
